CLEER (Curriculum Learning Education Enterprise Resources)

is a not for profit company which aims to involve young people of all abilities in enterprise projects designed to prepare them for the world of work. Its objectives are:

•To provide and develop services and resources in partnership to further young people’s  aspirations;

•To develop transferable skills for young people by means of tailored projects;

•To build young people’s sense of achievement, self-esteem and ownership;

•To involve young people of all abilities, including N.E.E.T.s, in projects which will develop their readiness for the world of work;

•To provide services by associating with voluntary organisations, local authorities, health organisations, local communities and local organisations in a common effort

  to provide services enabling individuals to move forward with their lives;

•To manage and improve the facilities and services of the Company which, in the opinion of the Directors, may enhance the sustainability of the Company.

The Directors of CLEER Ltd. have over 120 years of teaching experience between them, most of which has been in local schools in areas of deprivation.

We have been working with four schools on enterprise projects funded by Awards for All. These currently are Yearbooks, Calendars and School magazines. Others are currently being developed.

Our activities involve working directly with clients and are designed to run either before school, at lunchtimes or as after school activities. They are not part of the school curriculum and are designed to develop skills not catered elsewhere.

Our clients plan and design their products which are then published and marketed to parents, carers and interested members of the local community. They work as a team, allocating roles and responsibilities, setting deadlines, carrying out research, organising publicity, advertising or sponsorship.

Discussions with schools indicated that demand far exceeded supply. Consequently we have applied to Comic Relief for a grant to enable us to expand and develop our services and work with a mainstream Secondary School and a Secondary Special School.

These activities involve clients in interaction with their local community, such as volunteering to work on community projects and help to develop the skills and personal attributes of our clients outside the academic curriculum that will help prepare them for the world of work. These include building confidence, increasing commercial awareness, working to deadlines, improving communication, team working and problem solving.

These activities although not entirely dependent on grant funding are significantly enhanced by such funds, as they allow for a greater input from our session workers. Normally we expect to be able to provide a small number of visits per school during the lifetime of the project. Funding allows for weekly or fortnightly work.

The Directors are developing a business plan for the company and are looking to cultivate other revenue streams which will provide income throughout the year.

To this end we are keen to make best use of the talents of the Directors and trusted colleagues or former colleagues to provide services in line with our objectives such as;

•Tuition services for clients who are out of school for reasons which make them hard to place.

•Curriculum development for Primary Schools with emphasis on making the transition from subject based teaching to a more thematic approach.

•Primary School in service training particularly in Science to enable teachers to develop confidence and skills in delivering the subject.

•Careers advice and disaffection counselling.

•Support for young people experiencing social, legal or offending problems.

•Developing video based training in conjunction with a Secondary School to enable teachers to identify and improve their skills and confidence, particularly during •observations.

•Sports development, currently for badminton and Swimming.

•Dyslexia assessment, support and teaching.

•SENCO work for schools

In accordance with our objectives CLEER Ltd. is looking to act as a service provider taking a small commission for services provided. All session workers will be suitably qualified and DBS checked in accordance with our Safeguarding Policy. Click here for our privacy policy.
